Here we have a vintage Buescher True-Tone alto saxophone in gold lacquer, serial number #180620. These saxophones were manufactured, as their primary model, prolifically by Buescher throughout the 1910s until the early 1930s. They came in either silver or gold plate, this one has been relacquered, and the engraving re-cut with a full replacement of the pads, all completed by another shop. It is currently playing down to a low Bb with some leaks on its current pads.

The True-tone has full chromatic key-work down to low Bb, as high as palm F. The bell keys are split, there is no automatic junction between the table keys and G#, it is not articulated. There is a functioning back-door Eb and G# trill key options in the lower stack. The pinky keys for the right and left hand have hard rubber rollers that are moving freely.

This sax is from 1925, so a lot of posts, keyguard feet, etc. have been re-soldered. Some of this shows on the bow, some are more discreet, but everything is holding well. The engraving has been re-cut and it turned out great! The dark honey lacquer color makes the exposed brass really pop aesthetically. The pads feature brown plastic resonators from top to bottom, no original snaps remain.

Sonically, this one plays with a sweet, brilliant character with a free blowing feel. We got a very nice video of this alto with Ben from our shop. Ben sounds good on just about everything he plays but he did mention it is a little difficult to play through to the low notes at this time. In order to offer this saxophone at a lower price we are selling it in as is condition.

If you're a player looking for a 20s era sax for that schmaltzy tone, this is a great choice.

This horn will ship in as-is condition in a vintage Buescher box style case with a plush purple interior with the neck in the photos.
