This is a first year (1925) Conn New Wonder II “Chu Berry” era sopranino saxophone in Eb, serial number 153993. We don't get a chance to see many Chu sopraninos in our store, mostly earlier model first series New Wonders, making this a great find for lovers of the classic American-made saxophones.

This horn is in what appears to be factory original lacquer. Conn wasn't offering lacquer as an option in 1925, but they also weren't selling very many sopraninos, so sometimes these horns would sit on a shelf for years before being ordered by a store to sell. Thus, my guess is, while this horn was manufactured in '25, it was sold much later and lacquered at the factory before sale. There's just no signs of buffing or any evidence of relacquering, and it has the right type of lacquer of a factory pre-war Conn. The lacquer shows only mild wear on the usual keys/touch points. Rolled tone holes are all in excellent condition, and while there's some minor dings/pushed-in posts here and there, nothing that would deter this from being a great player. Pads are a mix of newer and older, and the sax will get a fresh cleaning and adjustment from our shop before shipping, where we'll replace the older pads as well as all material.

If you love a free blowing horn horn with a lightning fast response, you won't be disappointed with this little guy. You have to remember it is a sopranino, so it takes a level of control to really get it to sing, but if you have the chops for it, you'll be blown away by its tone and response. Really fun horn to play. This sax ships in its original case with a new case handle.
