Here we have a P. Mauriat 500BX alto sax in black-nickel plate with silver plated keys, serial number PM0112917. This saxophone is in 'like-new' condition and has never been owned, currently it's playing great and will receive a proper Saxquest set-up before it leaves the shop. We are offering it at a great price as it is a floor-model and has only been play-tested a handful of times.

The PMA-500BX features a black-nickel finish with silver plated keys as well as a solid nickel-silver core to the body which shows through the featured engraving. This design is reminiscent of a Keilwerth 'Shadow' which also features silver plated keys and nickel-silver body. Aside from the construction materials, this is a very standard straight tone hole P. Mauriat alto, keywork from low Bb up to palm F#abalone key touches for upper and lower stacks, blued-steel needle-springs drive the fluid key-action, and the horn utilizes ribbed construction.

Physically this horn is in near pristine condition. For some reason the horn received a clear lacquer treatment over the silver plated keys. Due to this fact you can see the silver key work is starting to get a near pink patina. Aside from this cosmetic finish issue the horn is physically in great shape and has never seen any serious play time. It is currently in the Saxquest shop awaiting a professional set-up. We will go through and replace all the corks, felts, and other key materials to ensure this horn plays quietly, smoothly, and with perfect regulation.

Sonically, the 500BX has a powerful edgy character that doesn't get brittle, nor thin from the body material being nickel-silver. The bell houses the low end nicely with good intonation, the main notes in the upper and lower stack have a massive dynamic range that seems to gain complexity and brilliance as you push more air. Your highest notes shimmer, and your sound will cut and carry to the back of the room.

Players who find themselves surrounded by amplified instruments on most gigs will appreciate this sax, a big tip opening with a big chamber will be supported well by the 500BX. We will ship this horn in perfect playing condition in a contoured P. Mauriat carrying case.
