This is a very clean, very straight vintage Martin Committee III “The Martin Alto” saxophone, serial number 174745. This sax is playing well on good pads, and will get a fresh check-up in our shop before shipping. It's available for a great price and is perfect for weekend warriors needing a budget-friendly pro horn.

This sax was relacquered a long time ago, and was exceptionally well done, almost certainly at the factory. The engraving remains crisp and defined with no signs of buffing; in fact, I'd wager most people would think it is original. I only know different because I've seen hundreds of Martins from this era and can spot them. The lacquer color is great, and there are no signs of serious past repair or trauma. Only a couple shallow pings in the bottom bow and no major dents. The original neck shows the matching serial number, and it has never been pulled down.

This sax was repadded a few years ago but not played much since, and pads are still soft with lots of life left in them. They are matched with brown nylon resonators. To make sure pads are properly sealing, the sax will get a bench test before shipping, where we'll also replace material and even out the action. We won't be doing a “full” set up, in order to keep the price down for your wallet, but it will be gig-ready.

This is a very easy blowing alto with a good, fast response and an even tone. It takes your air very quickly and you can push it hard. Not terribly dark sounding, but it does have an overall warm quality to its tonal color. Ships in its original Martin hard case.
